Using Crossword Compiler on a Mac

The program only runs on Microsoft Windows. If you have a new Apple Silicon Mac (or an older Intel Mac), you can use the latest version of Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion or the free Virtual Box. Parallels with a new Mac is known to work very well (running Crossword Compiler on Windows 11 ARM). You can get free Windows virtual machines to try from Microsoft. It is also possible to run Windows on the cloud from your Mac, see Windows 365 Cloud PCs, or pay by the hour e.g. with AppOnFly.

Download instructions

Click the "Download Now" button above to start the download. Once the installation program has downloaded, you need to run it to install the program.

You may then see the following prompt:

You have chosen to open ccdemo.exe... Would you like to save this file?

Click Save File to confirm. When the download is complete, click the ccdemo.exe item in your download list on the toolbar at the top of the window. ###END_IF_FIREFOX### ###IF_IE###

You may then see the following prompt:

Do you want to run or save ccdemo.exe...

Click Run to start the installation. ###END_IF_IE### ###IF_EDGE### Just click the Run button at the bottom of your browser window to run the downloaded file. ###END_IF_EDGE### ###IF_CHROME### Just click the ccdemo file shown at the bottom of your browser window. ###END_IF_CHROME###

You may then see the following prompt:

Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC?

Click Yes to confirm that you want to install the program and follow the on-screen instructions when the initial extraction completes.

If you cannot find the downloaded file, look in your Downloads folder.

Using the program

The New Puzzle wizard should be fairly self-explanatory and will guide you through choosing a puzzle style and making the puzzle. Press F1 at any time when running the program if you need extra help.

Only a small number of sample word lists are included in the demo, and it can only be installed for use by one user - in the full version you can install for all the users on one computer (or on a network if you have bought the appropriate ###IF_LOC_US###license###END_IF_LOC_US######IF_NOT_LOC_US###licence###END_IF_NOT_LOC_US###).

Upgrading or uninstalling

If you purchase the full version there is no need to uninstall the demo, you can just install the full version on top of it to upgrade. If you wish to uninstall the demo, see Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel.
